How to install it

Android

  1. 1Open pdutilities.com in Chrome on your Android phone or tablet.
  2. 2Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
  3. 3Tap "Install app", or "Add to Home screen" on older versions of Chrome.
  4. 4Confirm with "Install". The PD icon appears with your other apps.

Chrome often shows an install prompt on its own after a visit or two. Samsung Internet uses Menu, then “Add page to”, then “Home screen”.

iPhone & iPad

  1. 1Open pdutilities.com in Safari. This has to be Safari, as other iPhone browsers do not offer the option reliably.
  2. 2Tap the Share button, the square with an arrow pointing up, in the bottom toolbar.
  3. 3Scroll down the share sheet and tap "Add to Home Screen".
  4. 4Tap "Add" in the top-right corner. The PD icon appears on your home screen.

iOS only offers “Add to Home Screen” from the Safari share sheet, so start in Safari even if another browser is your default.

Windows, Mac & Linux

In Chrome or Edge, look for the install icon at the right-hand end of the address bar and click it, or use the browser menu and choose the option to install this site as an app. PDUtilities then opens in its own window, with its own taskbar or dock icon.

Common questions

Is this a real app?
Yes, in every way that matters day to day. It gets its own home screen icon, opens fullscreen with no browser address bar, and works offline. It is built as a Progressive Web App, which is the same technology behind the installable apps from Twitter, Spotify and Starbucks.
Why is it not on the App Store or Google Play?
PDUtilities is a set of browser-based tools, so it does not need the stores to reach you, and skipping them means no review delays, no forced updates and no tracking requirements. Installing directly from this page takes a few taps and the result behaves the same on your home screen.
Does it cost anything?
No. The app is free, exactly like the website, with no account and no subscription.
Will it take up much space?
Only a few megabytes. Your device saves the pages and code you actually use, which is a fraction of the size of a typical downloaded app.
How do I remove it?
Exactly like any other app. Press and hold the PD icon on your home screen and choose Remove or Uninstall. Nothing is left behind on your device.
Do my files get uploaded once it is installed?
No. Installing does not change how the tools work. Files are still processed entirely on your device and are never sent to us.
