Why convert a PDF to JPG?
Some places accept images but not documents: social media posts, chat apps that preview images but not PDFs, slide decks, or online forms that ask for a photo of a certificate. Converting a page to JPG gives you a picture of it that opens everywhere and can be cropped, annotated or pasted into another document.
Picking pages and resolution
Leave the page box set to all to convert every page, or type a selection such as 1-3, 5. Each page becomes its own JPG. When several pages are converted you can download them one at a time or together as a ZIP.
You can also add several PDFs at once, each with its own page box. They are all converted at the same resolution, and Download all gives you one ZIP with a folder for each PDF, so pages from different files never get mixed up.
| Resolution | Good for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| 1x | Quick previews, chat messages, thumbnails | Small type can look soft |
| 2x (default) | Most uses: screens, slides, sharing, forms | Balanced size and sharpness |
| 3x | Printing, zooming into fine detail, OCR | Much larger files and slower to render |
Resolution multiplies the page's natural size. An A4 page at 2x comes out at roughly 1190 × 1684 pixels, which is plenty for reading on any screen. Go to 3x only if you plan to print the image or need to read tiny print.
Things to be aware of
- A JPG is a flat picture. Text in the image cannot be selected or searched, and links stop working.
- JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas in the PDF become white.
- Password-protected PDFs cannot be converted until they are unlocked.
- If an upload form has a size limit, try 1x or 2x first, or shrink the result with the Image Compressor.
Going the other way? JPG to PDF puts images back into a single document.
Privacy
Pages are drawn by your browser using the same PDF engine that powers Firefox's built-in viewer, and the images are created on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
