Type a number and see it written out in words, ready to copy onto a cheque, invoice, receipt or form. Choose English with lakh and crore, English with million and billion, Nepali or Hindi, and add rupees and paisa or dollars and cents. Amounts up to 15 digits are supported, and the number is shown with the right comma grouping too.

Writing an amount on a cheque

  1. Type the amount in figures, with or without commas: 125000, 1,25,000 and 125,000 all work.
  2. Choose the language. English with lakh and crore is how cheques are written in Nepal and India; million and billion suit most other countries.
  3. Pick the currency to get the cheque wording, such as "Rupees One Lakh Twenty-Five Thousand Only".
  4. Copy the words and write them on the cheque exactly as shown.

Lakh, crore, million: a quick guide

  • 1,00,000 = one lakh = one hundred thousand.
  • 10,00,000 = ten lakh = one million.
  • 1,00,00,000 = one crore = ten million.
  • 100 crore = one billion; in Nepali and Hindi, one arab.

Tips

  • End cheque amounts with "Only" so nothing can be added after the words.
  • Check the figures and the words match before you sign.
  • Nepali and Hindi words follow the usual spoken forms, such as पच्चीस (25) and उनान्सय (99).
