Calculate exact age in years, months and days from a birth date, plus total days lived, instantly in your browser.

Exact age, not just years

The calculator gives your age in completed years, months and days, plus the total number of days you have lived and a countdown to your next birthday. By default it calculates age as of today, but you can set any “as of” date, which is useful for forms that ask for your age on a specific date such as an exam date, an application deadline or the start of a school year.

When exact age matters

  • Eligibility cut-offs for exams, jobs, scholarships, sports categories and school admission are often defined as an age on a particular date.
  • Retirement and pension planning, where months can matter.
  • Insurance and visa forms that ask for age in completed years.
  • Milestones: your 10,000th day falls a little after your 27th birthday.

How it handles calendars

The calculation uses real calendar dates, so months with 28, 29, 30 or 31 days and leap years are all handled correctly. Someone born on 29 February has a birthday only in leap years; in other years most legal systems treat either 28 February or 1 March as the birthday, depending on the country.

Gregorian dates only

Dates are entered in the international Gregorian calendar (AD/CE). If your date of birth is recorded in Bikram Sambat (BS), as in Nepal, use the Age tab of the Nepali Date Converter, which works directly with BS dates. Subtracting 56 or 57 years by hand gives the wrong answer, because the day offset between the calendars varies from year to year.

Need the gap between two arbitrary dates instead, like days until a deadline? Use the Date Difference Calculator.
