How to Change or Remove Text in an Image
Updated 17 October 2026 · 4 min read
Fix a typo on a poster, update a date on a screenshot, or erase a stray label, with the background filled in and the new text matched in size and colour.
You have a flyer with the wrong date, a slide with a typo, or a screenshot with a label you do not want to share, and no original file to edit. Edit Text in Image lets you change the words in the picture itself.
How it works
- Add a screenshot, scan, poster or photo. The tool reads the image and highlights each line of text it finds.
- Click a highlighted line and type the new text. The old words are filled in from the background around them, and yours are drawn on the same line at the same size and colour.
- Pick the font that looks closest from the bar above the image, and adjust size, colour, bold or italic if needed.
- Download the edited image. It keeps its original format.
Three editing modes
| Mode | Use it to |
|---|---|
| Edit text | Replace a line the tool found |
| Erase | Drag over a date, label or mark to blend it into the background |
| Add text | Put a caption, label or correction anywhere |
Getting a clean result
- Plain and softly shaded backgrounds give a seamless result. On busy photos the filled area may look smudged.
- Keep the new text about the same length as the old so it fits the space.
- The text reader is trained on English, so text in other scripts may not be found. Use Erase over it and Add text in its place.
- Use Restore on an edit, or Restore original, to undo.
Editing a PDF rather than a picture? Edit PDF changes the real text in the file, often in its original font.
Use it honestly
This is meant for fixing your own designs and screenshots. Changing the details on certificates, receipts, IDs or other official documents can be fraud, so do not use it for that. The image is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
