Instant lowercase
Paste text and every capital letter is converted to lowercase right away. It follows Unicode rules, so accented letters and other scripts with upper and lower case, such as Greek and Cyrillic, convert correctly.
Practical uses
- Fixing Caps Lock accidents without retyping a whole paragraph.
- Cleaning data before comparing it. “John@Example.com” and “john@example.com” are the same email address, but a spreadsheet treats them as different until both are lowercase.
- Preparing tags, slugs and file names, which are usually all lowercase by convention.
- Normalising lists before running them through Remove Duplicate Lines or Sort Text Lines.
Be careful with names and acronyms
Converting to lowercase is one-way: the tool cannot know that “nasa” was “NASA” or that “mcdonald” was “McDonald”. Keep the original if you might need the capitals back, or use the Case Converter to apply Sentence case or Title Case afterwards and fix proper nouns by hand.
Email addresses are case-insensitive in practice, but website passwords are not. Never lowercase a password or a key you have been given.
