Compress Image to 20 KB reduces any photo to under 20 KB automatically. It picks the highest JPG quality that fits and only scales the picture down when quality alone isn't enough, so you get the best-looking file that meets the limit, without uploading anything.
When you need an image under 20 KB
- Signature uploads on exam, job and bank application forms, which often allow only 10–20 KB
- Passport-size photos on online forms with a strict photo limit
- Thumbnails and small icons where every kilobyte counts
Every form sets its own limits. Check its instructions for the exact file size, format and pixel dimensions before you upload.
What fits in 20 KB
20 KB is tight for a photo. A passport-style picture a few hundred pixels across usually fits at good quality, but a full phone photo has to be scaled down a lot. If the form also gives pixel dimensions, resize to those first with the Image Resizer, then compress here, and you'll keep the most quality.
How it gets your image under the limit
- If the image is already under 20 KB, you get it back untouched.
- Otherwise it's saved as a JPG at the highest quality that stays under 20 KB.
- If even the lowest quality is too big, the picture is scaled down a little at a time until it fits.
Need a different size? Change the number in the box, or use the full Image Compressor to compress by quality instead.
