Taking the photo
- Stand about half a metre in front of a plain white wall, so there's no shadow behind you.
- Face a window for soft, even light, and look straight at the camera with a neutral expression.
- Ask someone to take it from about 1.5 metres away at eye level, rather than a selfie, so your face isn't distorted.
- The standard passport size photo used on Indian forms and applications.
- For a new passport applied for in India, the photo is usually taken at the Passport Seva Kendra.
